Comedy living-legend Mel Brooks is the subject of the new HBO documentary special, Mel Brooks: Unwrapped, a film decades in the making.
Unwrapped features interview footage with comedy genius Mel Brooks, cleverly showcasing the great writer/director/producer’s talent to make people laugh.
The footage itself was shot many decades ago (Brooks is 93 now), making it an even more special treat for fans.
For the unaware, Brooks’ career spans over 50 years and he’s gone on to become one of the most influential comedians of all time.
His most notable credits include creating the hit TV series Get Smart back in 1965 as well as writing and directing credits on comedy classics like The Producers (1967), Blazing Saddles (1974), Young Frankenstein (1974), History of the World: Part I (1981), Spaceballs (1987) and Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) amongst others.
If this is all news to you and you’ve never heard of these films, then now is the time to drop everything and check them out.
While the trailer below is more of a teaser than anything, we get a fair bit of Mel’s humour come out in the short snippets we’re shown, and we can see just how obvious it is that he was born with an unrivalled gift for comedy.
The film should be a delight for fans and a good education on comedy history for all the newcomers.
Check out the trailer below, and considering we’re on the verge of the release of The Rise of Skywalker, check out a clip featuring Mel parodying Yoda in Spaceballs beneath that!
