Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus (presumably) feature in the new trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, and there’s a lot to get excited about.
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity from the original Matrix trilogy.
While there’s no sign of Laurence Fishburne, it looks as though current Hollywood standout Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is taking over the role of Morpheus.
In the trailer, we meet an older, somewhat more confused Neo, who meets an older, somewhat more confused Trinity.
Neo appears to be hooked on some blue pills, and upon meeting Morpheus, is given a fancy red pill to try.
With the red pill comes the revelation of the simulated world they’re living in, otherwise known as “The Matrix”, and lots of action ensues.
If you’ve seen the original Matrix trilogy, then it’s essentially more of the same in Resurrections if the plot teased in the trailer is anything to go by.
While the official plot is still under wraps, it seems like Neo will be reintroduced to The Matrix for the first time again, following a similar story to 1999’s groundbreaking original sci-fi film.
Rebooting this franchise with a rehashed plot doesn’t inspire too much confidence, so we’re hoping director Lana Wachowski has a few surprises in store for us.
Despite the potential concerns of the story, the film looks to feature epic action with a lot of well-developed CGI.
The original 90s film broke new ground in computer graphics technology, so here’s hoping we see some further evolution of the tech in Resurrections.
The film co-stars Jessica Henwick, Christina Ricci, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jada Pinkett Smith and is due out in Australian cinemas on January 1st, 2022.
