Word out of Hollywood today is that the recent James Wan-produced horror film Lights Out, starring Teresa Palmer will be getting a sequel.
Deadline reports that the sequel has been officially green-lit, considering the $4.9 million-budget (USD) film has already earned $27 million in the USA and $35 million worldwide, only after a few days.
This comes as no surprise as low-budget films, be it good or bad ones, usually get a sequel if they can return so much money based on their original budget.
Director David F. Sandberg has also confirmed that he’ll be back to direct the follow-up film.
This is good news as it’s nice to see horror films doing well in the mainstream.
Lights Out has received mostly moderate-to-positive reviews so far, so it might be worth checking out for fans of the genre.
The film was based off a spooky short film which we have below.
It’s always inspiring for up-and-coming filmmakers to see a short film be turned into a major feature film, and it just goes to show that for anyone trying to break out into the industry, short films are an excellent stepping stone that may very well lead to bigger things.
