Stanley Kubrick Film Festival at Cinema Nova

Melbourne’s Cinema Nova will be screening the entire filmography of the legendary director Stanley Kubrick from October 6 – 19.

The often-imitated director gets his own film festival at Cinema Nova in Carlton, who will be screening his entire catalogue of films which will include his classics 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove to name a few.

It’s really hard to say which Kubrick films stand out as they’re all amazing, and each film will leave a different impression on each person.

Kubrick was active from 1953 to 1999, with his last film before his death being Eyes Wide Shut, which starred Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

While only having directed a small number of feature films (13), his work has gone on to inspire a myriad of future filmmakers, while simultaneously making a dint in the fabric of pop-culture, with films like The Shining, A Clockwork Orange and 2001, all of which have been referenced across different forms of media countless times.

The festival runs from October 6 – 19 at Cinema Nova in Carlton and you can view more information and book tickets here.

Check out the trailer below for one of Kubrick’s earliest films, and one of my personal favourite films of his, 1956’s The Killing.
