‘Kickboxer: Vengeance’ – Trailer

kickboxer

The first full-length trailer for Kickboxer: Vengeance has been released and it wants you to know – if you’re afraid to die in a fight… You’re dead.

It’s brilliant one-liners like that, that made 1989’s Kickboxer, as well as pretty much all martial-arts action films of that era.

I can only hope the filmmakers of Kickboxer: Vengeance are aware of this and have decided to poke fun at that fact in the this remake, rather than opting for a super-serious tone.

The film follows the story of Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), as he sets out to avenge the death of his brother Eric (Darren Shahlavi), by challenging his killer, the Muay Thai specialist Tong Po (Dave Bautista) in a kickboxing match.

He seeks the training of kickboxing master Durand, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, who made the original Kickboxer film famous.

The trailer looks to have all the traits of a B-grade martial-arts action film, including bad acting and silly one-liners, which is probably ideal for a movie like this.

As long as the action is of a high quality, then we should be in for a treat.

The film stars Alain Moussi, Dave Bautista, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Darren Shahlavi, Gina Carano and Georges St-Pierre.

It’s directed by John Stockwell, who’s mostly known for directing B-grade action films, but he did also direct 2006’s Turistas, which was a solid horror-thriller film.

Kickboxer: Vengence is due for release on 19 August 2016 in the USA.
