James Bond film fans were left feeling double-crossed after news of a two-month delay of the release of the 25th instalment was announced.
According to Empire, while the film is in pre-production, the release date has been shifted yet again, in a long line of delays for the follow up to Spectre (2015).
The official James Bond Twitter account revealed the news, with a new release date of 8 April 2020.
Initially set to be released for November 2019, this date was axed as original Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle left the project over ‘creative differences’ and new director Cary Joji Fukunaga joined the team.
With this upheaval, the date was pushed to 14 February 2020.
No official reason has been published for the latest setback but with the previous date now less than a year away and shooting not yet begun, quite possibly more breathing room is needed to allow the project to develop.
Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Bond for what is likely the final time, although according to Screen Rant, 2018 saw considerable speculation as to whether or not he would return as 007, or if the torch would be passed on to a new Bond.
Bond 25 is set to continue the long-running threads that originated from Casino Royale (2006).
The script is being penned by long-term Bond thinkers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.
As well as Craig, cast members including Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Ralph Fiennes will be returning, as will Léa Seydoux as Spectre’s Dr. Madeleine Swann.
