This year’s New York Film Festival is off to a start and A24’s newest indie film Lady Bird is on the list of films set to impress.
Lady Bird is the first debut feature film from actress and filmmaker Greta Gerwig and stars Saoirse Ronan, Lucas Hedges, Tracy Letts, Laurie Metcalf, Danielle Macdonald and Timothee Chalamet.
Ronan plays Christine, a rebellious teen who insists on calling herself ‘Lady Bird’, and has her mind set on going to college on the East Coast.
The film seems to show the typical coming-of-age story as Lady Bird finds herself in a few difficult situations and love triangles, all which could be helped by her mother’s advice if she wasn’t so infuriating to the stubborn Lady Bird.
The trailer also features Tracy Letts as Lady Bird’s supportive and clueless dad Larry, and Laurie Metcalf as her mum Marion, who just wants to support her daughter.
This film appears to follow a typical plot, but does seem to have added its own honest angle to the retelling.
The trailer shows the most awkward phases of being a teenager on the cusp of going to college and into adulthood, as we see the lead character discovering her sexuality and true self whilst trying not to break her heart, or anyone else’s.
Lady Bird is set to be released on the 10 November 2017, check out the trailer below.
