A new poster has been released for the upcoming war biopic Hacksaw Ridge, starring Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington and Teresa Palmer.
Hacksaw Ridge is directed by Mel Gibson and is the first film he’s directed since 2006’s Apocalypto.
I’m not too excited about another war film as there are so many WW2 war dramas already out there, however Gibson is an excellent director so I’ll definitely be watching it for that reason alone.
Hacksaw Ridge is based on a true story about American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss who served in Okinawa in WW2 and was the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.
According to Wikipedia:
A conscientious objector is an “individual who has claimed the right to refuse to perform military service” on the grounds of freedom of thought, conscience, disability or religion. In general, conscientious objector status is considered only in the context of military conscription and is not applicable to volunteer military forces.
Andrew Garfield takes the lead role along with co-stars Vince Vaughn and a predominantly Aussie supporting cast including Teresa Palmer, Sam Worthington, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, Richard Roxburgh and Luke Bracey – which is nice to see.
It’s due for release on 4 November 2016 in the USA, just in time for awards season.
