Check out the trailer for the Sundance Film Festival standout indie film A Ghost Story, starring Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara.
A Ghost Story is a love story that follows a bereft woman as she copes with the loss of her husband, who has returned in the form a sheet-covered ghost to try and reconnect with her.
The trailer clearly outlines the indie-film sensibilities of this film, which may not be to everyone’s taste, though these films can generally have a resounding effect on audiences once they give them a chance.
The film appears to be shot in an old-school home-video (4:3) format, which is an interesting style choice, one that I can only assume was used for added effect.
The film was a hit at the last Sundance Film Festival, which has had some outstanding films premiere there in the past, so if that’s anything to go buy then A Ghost Story could be a must-see.
The film reunites director David Lowery with his two leads, whom he directed in the film Ain’t Them Bodies Saints (2013).
Lowery went on to direct Pete’s Dragon (2016) for Disney after that film, so it looks like he’ll be a name to look out for in the future, also having recently signed on to direct the live adaptation of the classic Peter Pan story, due out in 2018.
The film hits Australian cinemas on 13 July 2017.
