Check out this early concept art featuring Elle Fanning in the role of Jean Grey for the recently released film X-Men: Apocalypse.
We all know the role went to Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner in what was the third film in the trilogy of the second round of X-Men films, following First Class and Days of Future Past.
Sophie Turner did a fine job portraying the character (even though the film itself could’ve been better), however seeing this concept art by Alan Villanueva makes me wonder if Fanning would have suited the role better.
That is of course to judge the look of the character based on that image alone, but it’s also fair to say that Fanning’s acting pedigree is of a higher distinction compared to Turner’s.
Apparently Villanueva was hired by Fox Studios to come up with concept art sketches for the character, featuring Fanning in the costume, which likely means that Fox had the actress in high consideration to offer the role to at one point.
Whatever the case was, Fox made a good choice casting Turner in the role of Jean Grey, and regardless of which actress was cast, neither of them would have made the film any better on their own merit.
