Eddie Murphy Graces Our Screens Again in ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ Trailer

Comedy legend Eddie Murphy has returned to acting after a long hiatus in the upcoming Netflix comedy biopic, Dolemite Is My Name.

Eddie Murphy plays the entertainer Rudy Ray Moore, who made a name for himself in 70’s blaxploitation cinema with his character, Dolemite.

Blaxploitation cinema is a sub-genre of exploitation cinema that features a predominantly African-American cast, its movies making fun of ethnic stereotypes with over-the-top action and comedy.

Ray Moore brought his character to the big screen in 1975 with the film, Dolemite, after realising that most of the white cinema-going audience were watching films that weren’t funny and featured virtually no black actors.

The new Netflix biopic, Dolemite Is My Name, tells the humorous story of Ray Moore’s life and the path he took to get his character to the big screen.

It looks pretty funny and Murphy looks like he’s in form, after having virtually disappeared from starring in movies over the last decade (we won’t count the poorly received Mr. Church (2016)).

Dolemite Is My Name features a great supporting cast that includes Keegan-Michael Key, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Titus Burgess and Wesley Snipes.

In other exciting news, Eddie Murphy will also be reprising his role as Akeem in Coming 2 America (2020), the sequel to his cult classic comedy film, Coming to America (1988).

Murphy’s latest will hit Netflix and cinema screens later in 2019, check out the trailer below.
