Feel a Major Sense of Dread Watching the Trailer for ‘The Lighthouse’

dread movies

The trailer for the new horror film The Lighthouse has dropped and it will give you an uncomfortable sense of dread while watching it.

Set in the 1890s on a remote New England island, The Lighthouse sees two lighthouse keepers begin to go nuts and lose their sense of reality.

The trailer for this new psychological horror-fantasy film is full of impending dread while only giving us a small taste of what to expect.

Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe appear to be putting in their absolute best efforts here performance-wise, and director Robert Eggers’ signature off-putting style is on full display.

Okay, it might be a bit early to link Eggers to a signature style of any sort considering he’s only directed one other film prior (the awesome 2015 horror film The Witch).

However, fans of that film should immediately be able to make the connection there, stylistically.

From the get-go, the trailer will have you feeling all awkwardly inside, and in under two minutes will clearly convey this descent into madness the film’s characters are embarking on.

Pattinson and Dafoe are joined by one other cast member in Valeriia Karaman, who appears to play a mermaid (hence the fantasy aspect mentioned earlier).

What’s great about this new project from A24 films is that we rarely see movies this stylised these days, which should make for a nice respite from the flashy lights of Hollywood films that flood the mainstream film market.

Check out The Lighthouse in cinemas from 18 October 2019.
