Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig star in the strange film Downsizing, a sci-fi film with a unique solution to the world’s overcrowding problem.
Downsizing sees a world where people can shrink down to miniature versions of themselves in order to live better lives.
The trailer gives us an insight into what to expect from Academy Award winner Alexander Payne’s latest film, and it looks like it will be a light-hearted, somewhat feel-good sci-fi dramedy.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen a movie where the film’s protagonists have been shrunk down into miniature versions of themselves, like in Honey I Shrunk the Kids (1989) or Innerspace (1987), however where those films tended to be more comedy-based, this one looks like it will have a fair bit of social commentary behind it.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the tone will change in any newer trailers for this film, as I suspect there’s is a lot being held back in this first trailer, while it is intriguing enough to garner audience interest.
The film features a great cast that includes Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau and Jason Sudeikis.
Downsizing releases across cinemas on 26 December 2017 in Australia.
