The brothers James and Dave Franco star in The Disaster Artist, a film about the making of one of the ‘worst’ movies of all time, 2003’s The Room.
I put the word ‘worst’ in quotes because while it technically might be one of the worst movies ever made, it’s also one of the unexpectedly funniest, that’s gone on to become a cult classic with a huge following around the world.
14 years later since The Room was released, and it still receives special screenings once a month, every month, at various independent cinemas around the world.
Not even hugely popular and critically successful films can make claim to that stake.
So why was The Room considered that bad?
Well, I could write it here, but you’re better off seeing it for yourself, as it’s a must-see film that offers a hilarious, love-it-or-hate it experience.
The Disaster Artist tells the story of the making of that film, and is based on the novel of the same name by writer/actor Greg Sestero, who played one of the main characters in The Room.
Sestero is played by Dave Franco in the film, and his brother James will play the film’s enigmatic star, Tommy Wiseau.
The book itself is a hilarious read, so if the film is anything like that then we should be in for a treat.
And judging by this first full trailer for it, it appears to be on the right track.
While The Disaster Artist looks like it will be an enjoyable watch on its own, I do recommend any potential moviegoers see The Room first before seeing this, just to have more of an idea about its characters.
The film is directed by James Franco, and features an all-star cast that includes the aforementioned Franco brothers, Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Zac Efron, Hannibal Buress, Melanie Griffith, Sharon Stone, Alison Brie and Jacki Weaver.
