Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile features a star-studded cast in a new murder-mystery story based on the Agatha Christie classic of the same name.
Branagh reprises his role as Hercule Poirot from 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, and this time finds himself on a cruise liner sailing down the Nile River.
The ship, filled with high-society types, is thrown into chaos after a young heiress is murdered, with everyone a suspect.
Poirot’s task is to unravel the mystery behind the murder and find the killer.
Branagh also directs the film, which looks visually stunning based on what we can see in the trailer below.
The cinematography, costume and set design all looks phenomenal, and people love a good murder mystery crime film, so Death on the Nile appears to have all the right elements to make it entertaining, and successful.
The key highlight of the film is its amazing ensemble cast, which alongside Branagh includes Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright.
With a great cast and a plot surely to be filled with twists and turns (most Agatha Christie stories are), Death on the Nile is one to keep an eye on.
And if the popularity of Rian Johnson’s Knives Out (2019) is anything to go by, then Branagh and Twentieth Century Studios could have a hit here.
It’s due for release on 23 October 2020.
