Gary Oldman Stars as Winston Churchill in ‘Darkest Hour’ – Trailer

darkest hour 2017

Oldman looks to be in career-best form in the role of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, in the upcoming film from Joe Wright, Darkest Hour.

The film is set around the early days of World War 2, when the newly appointed Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Oldman) must decide whether or not to negotiate, or battle Adolph Hitler’s German forces.

The trailer for this film looks rather captivating, for a film that has the potential to lean towards the boring side, when you consider the subject matter.

While biographical movies about former British members of parliament may not cast the biggest mainstream audience net, we’ve seen with a film like The King’s Speech (2010), that the basic subject matter can make for some brilliant viewing.

Darkest Hour does however look like it has thrilling elements, so it should make for a good drama, especially when you consider the cast, that along with Gary Oldman also includes Ben Mendelsohn, Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily James and Stephen Dillane.

The film is directed by Joe Wright, whose past credits include Atonement (2007), Anna Karenina (2012), and 2015’s disappointing film Pan.

His record is for the most part is about fifty-fifty, but with the right script and cast, Wright is more than a capable director.

Darkest Hour hits Australian cinemas on 11 January 2018, check out the trailer below.
