Check out the first teaser trailer for The Nun, the terrifying horror film set in The Conjuring universe, which promises to be the darkest chapter yet.
Set long before the events of The Conjuring (2013) and Annabelle (2014), The Nun follows the story of a Catholic priest (Demián Bichir) and a nun (Taissa Farmiga) as they travel to the Vatican to investigate a nun’s death, where a mysterious, malevolent force is said to exist.
The film’s trailer sets the film’s eery tone, with a look at some of the characters and the way the filmmakers plan to frighten audiences.
The scare tactics on display here are consistent with the style in the previous films set in this universe; the classic slow build-up to a jump scare, usually with supernatural elements.
This style often works with mainstream horrors, but isn’t always scary.
Thankfully, The Nun teaser, with its old-school religious setting hits the mark on the creepiness-factor, so horror fans could potentially be in for a treat here.
The film is directed by Corin Hardy, who directed the awesome indy horror film The Hallow (2015), and is produced by horror-king, and Australia’s own James Wan.
The Nun stars Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu and Bonnie Aarons, and is due to hit cinemas on 6 September 2018.
Check out the first teaser below, for what the filmmakers claim to be the darkest chapter in this extended film series.
