Daniel Kaluuya puts in a powerful performance as a Black Panther Party chairman that’s assassinated by the FBI at the age of 21 in Judas and the Black Messiah.
Kaluuya plays Fred Hampton, a young Black Panther Party leader who was assassinated after the FBI coerced Hampton’s friend, William O’Neal (Lakeith Stanfield), into helping them silence the revolutionary leader.
Judas and the Black Messiah tells Hamtpon’s story in a raw and unflinching manner, with a truly mesmerizing performance from Oscar-nominee for 2017’s Get Out, Daniel Kaluuya.
Lakeith Stanfield co-stars as William O’Neal, the petty criminal who is pressured into turning on his fellow Black Panther Party activists by FBI agent Roy Mitchell (Jesse Plemons) in an effort to destroy the Party.
Both Stanfield and Plemons appear to be at the top of their game, rounding out a trio of powerhouse performances in the film.
The film looks intense, and tells a timely story of the government trying to silence the voices of its oppressed people, which should make for riveting viewing.
Judas and the Black Messiah is directed by Shaka King and is due out in cinemas soon.
