Halloween favourite and cult classic Disney movie Hocus Pocus (1993) is the newest film to be churned through the remake machine.
Despite initial rumours that a direct sequel was on the cards, Deadline now reports that a fresh take is on the way, with a new cast and director.
The original film was directed by Kenny Ortega and starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker, receiving mixed reviews that leant towards negative.
Although the Rotten Tomatoes score is only 30%, the audience score is at 70%.
That, combined with a strong showing on home video and massive ratings when aired on Disney Channel and ABC, Hocus Pocus has solidified its status as a cult classic.
While the new cast have yet to be announced (though it’s rumoured the original cast members will appear), the producer of the original, David Kirschner, will be returning.
Does anyone have fond memories of the 1993 original film, and if so, are you excited about the remake news?
