Chucky, the most iconic evil doll in horror is back with some modern killing powers in 2019’s Child’s Play remake/reboot.
In Child’s Play, a boy is given a doll as a present for his birthday by his mother (Aubrey Plaza), only to find out later that the doll, dubbed Chucky, is an evil killing machine.
The original 1988 film of the same name introduced horror audiences and the world to Chucky, who went on to immediately become an iconic horror movie-monster.
In that film, Chucky’s murderous ways were forged through black magic, though in the 2019 remake, it appears the doll has been upgraded to suit modern times.
In this film, Chucky appears to be web-connected and able to run home-automation services.
It’s not as mysterious as black magic that’s for sure, but it makes sense for the modern era and opens up some new possibilities in the way the evil doll can go about its killing business.
Chucky’s new look also doesn’t appear as menacing as the original film’s design, so it will be interesting to see how audiences react to it and whether director Lars Klevberg can come up with some innovative death scenes and build some true tension in this film.
The current evil doll leading the charge in horror is Annabelle (new movie Annabelle Comes Home due soon), whose design looks terrifying compared to Chucky circa 2019.
The film’s full trailer does promise some good horror, however, and we’ll find out for sure when the film releases on 20 June 2019.
