Learn to Enjoy Life Against All Odds in Bittersweet Dramedy ‘Babyteeth’

bittersweet movies

Babyteeth is a bittersweet story about love, life, grief and family that aims to explore the value of enjoying life while you can.

Eliza Scanlen plays terminally ill teenager Milla, who falls in love with local small-time drug dealer Toby (Toby Wallace), much to the dismay of her overprotective parents.

Naturally, Milla rebels, forcing her parents and those around her to try and understand the importance of loving and enjoying life while you’re able to.

Australian short film and TV director Shannon Murphy makes her feature film debut with Babyteeth and it looks like a touching, bittersweet coming-of-age tale, and a film that may require a tissue box or two when all is said and done.

Babyteeth will have its world premiere in official competition at the Venice Film Festival on 4 September 2019, with Murphy being one of only two female directors to have a feature in this year’s competition.

I hope the film does well for Murphy at the festival as it looks great and it would be a great boost for Australian cinema on the world stage should it win an award.

Essie Davis and Ben Mendelsohn round out the film’s cast.

Check out the trailer below before the film arrives in theatres next year.
