A controversial new poster has been released for the upcoming film, The Birth of a Nation, which is written by, directed by, and stars Nate Parker.
The new poster showing the lead character’s head wrapped in a noose made out of the American flag has caused a bit of a stir.
The film, based on a true story, follows the character of Nat Turner, a preacher and a slave who gathers up his fellow slaves to form an uprising against their owners.
It’s a period film, set in the times of slavery in the American South.
From a design standpoint, the new poster (and the first two that came before it) is outstanding.
They’re high-level designs that not only convey the powerful theme of the movie, but also in a clever way.
The Birth of a Nation stars Nate Parker, Armie Hammer, Penelope Ann Miller and Jackie Earle Haley and is written and directed by Nate Parker who makes his directorial debut here.
The film is due for release on 7 October 2016 in the USA, right on time for awards season, and judging by the trailer below, it looks like an excellent candidate to pick up a few nominations.
IMDB Synopsis:
Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher in the antebellum South, orchestrates an uprising.
