Antoine Fuqua, the director of Training Day and the upcoming The Magnificent Seven is in talks to direct the next iteration of Scarface.
The original Scarface came out in 1932, by director Howard Hawks and star Paul Muni and the Scarface of the modern era that we know and love was released in 1983, by director Brian De Palma and featuring Al Pacino in the lead role.
That film went on to become and instant classic and many will argue that it should never be re-made.
Well maybe it shouldn’t, but in the age we’re living in, no film is sacred.
If anyone can do the film justice though, it’s Antoine Fuqua (pictured below).
Having already directed the outstanding crime film Training Day, along with The Equalizer, Southpaw and now the upcoming The Magnificent Seven, the director definitely has the skills to reboot the beloved film.
The question now is, will Fuqua cast his regular collaborator Denzel Washington in a role if it goes ahead?
I’d say there’s a strong chance, but maybe not in the lead as Tony Montana, however he could do well in a supporting role.
Does anyone want to see this get made?
