‘The Age of Shadows’ – Trailer & Australian Release Date

Shadows

Check out the fantastic trailer for The Age of Shadows, by the acclaimed director of A Bittersweet Life and I Saw the Devil, Jee-woon Kim.

The 1920’s based spy thriller stars two of Korean cinema’s biggest stars in Song Kang-ho (Snowpiercer, The Host) and Byung-hun-lee (The Magnifcient Seven, I Saw the Devil), in what looks likely to be the next outstanding addition to the already great repertoire of films that have come out of Korea.

Over the years Korea has been a massive force in quality film production, with directors like the aforementioned Jee-woon Kim, Chan-Wook Park (Oldboy, The Handmaiden) and Joon-ho Bong (Snowpiercer, The Host) leading the pack with their standout films.

If anyone hasn’t seen any of their films, I highly recommend you chase them down and check them out, as they rival, and often surpass most of what comes out of Hollywood these days.

With the directing and acting talent on board for The Age of Shadows, along with what appears to be a thrilling story with twists and turns and excellent production values, the film looks like a must-see when it releases in Australian cinemas on November 3.

The synopsis of the film courtesy of Madman Films is as follows:

Korea in the late 1920s is under Japanese occupation. Lee Jung-chool (Song Kang-ho, Snowpiercer), a Korean-born police captain in the Japanese police force, is given a special mission to infiltrate the armed resistance fighting for Korean independence. He approaches Kim Woo-jin (Gong Yoo, Train to Busan), a leader of the resistance to obtain information to expose their activities to the Japanese authorities. Soon Lee begins to doubt his loyalties, and show sympathy for his countrymen.

A resistance plan to obtain explosives in Shanghai that will be used to destroy the Japanese Headquarters in Seoul is set in motion, with Lee caught in the middle. His Japanese bosses suspect his shift in allegiance, and Lee becomes a wanted man. A deadly cat-and-mouse game unfolds in which loyalty is tested and no-one can be trusted.

The Age of Shadows hits Australian cinemas on November 3 and for more information, including where the film will be screening, please go here.
