Uncut Gems is already heaping the praises from critics and Adam Sandler looks to be on top of his game in this upcoming feature from A24 films.
Sandler plays Howard Ratner, a charismatic jeweler who’s always looking for the next big score.
His high-stakes betting and deal-making, however, will send him on a perilous path as he tries to balance his debts, business, family and associated parties on both sides of the hustle.
It’s hard to get a clear grasp on the film’s narrative from the official trailer below, but the tone is set for what looks like an edge of your seat, sweat-inducing drama.
Uncut Gems looks gritty and tense, which has been a staple of films under the A24 banner.
This would be Adam Sandler’s first dramatic role since The Meyerowitz Stories (2017), which itself was his return to drama since 2002’s excellent film, Punch-Drunk Love.
The actor, known for his comedic work, does have the goods to portray a dramatic character and should probably do more of this type of work.
Uncut Gems co-stars Kevin Garnett, Idina Menzel, Lakeith Stanfield, Julia Fox and The Weeknd.
It had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on 30 August 2019 and has been met with excellent reception.
It’s directed by the Safdie brothers, who were behind 2017’s hidden gem, Good Time starring Robert Pattinson.
Expect it in cinemas on 13 December 2019.
