‘An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power’ – Review

An Inconvenient Sequel 2017

What we see throughout An Inconvenient Sequel is evidence of the harshest effects climate change has to offer when it comes to affecting our planet. Whether you believe it or not, it is must-see viewing.

Former Vice President Al Gore is back again after the first movie An Inconvenient Truth (2006) was released a decade ago, and he shows no signs of slowing down in getting his point across to the world that climate change is a real, and very scary problem. It’s worth noting that some of the footage shown of cities and towns from all over the world struck by massive storms and rainfall is quite distressing; the image of a distressed woman being pulled out of a sinking car is one that will not leave your thoughts anytime soon.

This is a documentary that pulls no punches. And why should it? The overwhelming evidence that it provides is too hard to ignore. One could argue that the film is about one corporation trying to overtake another (solar and wind fuelled energy vs oil emissions), but seeing the evidence of how these oil emissions alone are affecting not only our planet, but us as people, is an eye-opening experience.

An Inconvenient Sequel review

What The Inconvenient Sequel does is simply present the facts without shoving them down your throat. Some may call it propaganda and write it off as brainwashing or untrue, but with the footage and scientific statistics clearly shown, it would take an extraordinary amount of effort to fake something like this.

As persuading as Al Gore is, he does have detractors. It’s easy to say that these certain individuals are worried about the changes he believes we should make, and the financial implications they come with. It’s a big step for anyone, but when billions of dollars are at stake, some people just want to plain ignore the facts. Having said that, in one particularly inspiring moment, Gore manages to massively influence the success of the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference.

Whether or not you truly believe we are destroying our plant, climate change is in fact a real issue we must deal with. This sequel to The Inconvenient Truth is just too important to miss.

Fun Fact:

Received two standing ovations at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
