Acclaimed science-fiction film director Neill Blomkamp is back, and this time he’s tackling the horror genre with Demonic.
The teaser trailer for Demonic doesn’t reveal much of the film’s plot; instead, it focuses on the terrifying imagery to feature in it.
The film’s IMDB synopsis mentions that a young woman unleashes terrifying demons, uncovering a decades-old supernatural feud between a mother and daughter.
While the teaser is pretty ambiguous on the narrative direction, the visuals look like the stuff of nightmares.
It almost feels like a compilation of evil imagery thought up in countless films and books that have come before it, and it’s horrifying.
Furthermore, the film is reminiscent of video game horror that has come to life, which feels unique.
Demonic stars Carly Pope and is helmed by popular South African director Neill Blomkamp, whose past credits include District 9 (2009), Elysium (2013), and Chappie (2015).
In the years that followed the poorly received Chappie, Blomkamp has stuck to developing short movies like Rakka (2017) with his production company, Oats Studios.
He was also attached to direct Alien 5, but the project never came to fruition.
Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer for the director’s next feature, with Demonic due for release on 20 August 2021.
