George Clooney Directs and Stars in New Sci-Fi Film ‘The Midnight Sky’

Clooney has been absent from the silver screen these past few years but has returned for the intriguing sci-fi drama The Midnight Sky for Netflix.

The film follows the story of a lonely scientist stuck in the arctic with what appears to be his daughter, as he attempts to warn a group of astronauts from returning to Earth, which has succumbed to a mysterious global catastrophe.

It seems as though the astronauts, who are played by a stellar cast that includes Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir, are humanity’s last chance at survival.

The Midnight Sky is based on the book, ‘Good Morning, Midnight’ by author Lily Brooks-Dalton and has been adapted by writer Mark L. Smith, whose past credits include The Revenant (2015) and Overlord (2018).

Along with starring in the lead role, Clooney takes the director’s chair on this one, making this his 7th directorial effort.

The film looks like a blend of hard science-fiction drama with an inspirational tone and some stunning visual effects.

There’s a certain doom-and-gloom vibe to it also, considering it’s set in a post-apocalyptic environment and the stakes are so high, but something tells me everything will work out fine for the human race at the end of this one.

The Midnight Sky hits Netflix on 23 December 2020.
