Da 5 Bloods stars popular actor Chadwick Boseman and sees acclaimed director Spike Lee tackle the Vietnam War with a unique take on the subject matter.
Spike Lee’s latest drama film for Netflix follows a group of Vietnam War vets who head back to Vietnam as old men, seeking to find the burial site of their former Squad Leader and the fortune of gold he helped them hide.
The trailer for the film features a mishmash of archival footage from the Vietnam War and the American political climate of the time, along with glimpses of Chadwick Boseman as the fallen Squad Leader, and the film’s principal cast of characters returning to Vietnam and getting into a world of trouble.
It’s hard to get a clear idea of what type of genre Lee is aiming for with Da 5 Bloods from this trailer, as it features quite a lot of action, but is billed as a drama film.
Nevertheless, fans of Lee and fans of war films will no doubt be intrigued by this one.
Spike Lee’s latest, BlacKkKlansman (2018), was an excellent, critically acclaimed film that won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, so it will be interesting to see if the director can follow up that effort with something equally as good.
Da 5 Bloods hits Netflix on 12 June 2020.
