A trailer for the upcoming film Loving from director Jeff Nichols has been released, starring Joel Edgerton, Ruth Negga and Michael Shannon.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival back in May this year, to wide acclaim.
Loving follows the story of an interracial couple in the American south circa 1958, who are sent to prison for getting married.
Jeff Nichols, director of Mud and Midnight Special (my review here) directs Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga in the lead roles as the married couple.
Fans of Nichols’ past work will know that he has a strong penchant for drama and it looks like his signature style will carry over to Loving, as you’ll see in the trailer.
It looks like there might be some powerhouse performances all round, which is prime for Oscar season.
Couple that with the touching storyline, this film will likely be aiming to get some nods at next years Oscars.
That’s good news for the director who is probably deserving of some higher recognition, but also for Aussie Joel Edgerton, who I believe is just shy of making a big impact in Hollywood.
Loving is based on a true story and is scheduled for release November 4 in the USA.
IMDB Synopsis:
