The new trailer for Andy Serkis’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle has dropped, along with an official release date for this new ‘Jungle Book’ adaptation.
Formerly known simply as Mowgli, the newly renamed Legend of the Jungle follows the story of the boy Mowgli, who was raised in the jungle by a pack of wolves.
When he comes across a human village for the first time, Mowgli must decide whether he belongs with human-kind or animal-kind, as he is forced to confront danger on both sides.
Mowgli is the latest interpretation of the classic Rudyard Kipling novel ‘The Jungle Book’, originally published in 1894.
Disney is best known for adapting the novel into a now classic animated film in 1967, which was remade in 2016 in live-action format by the powerhouse studio, going on to become a hit for them.
The Andy Serkis-directed version appears to follow the same story as the original novel and Disney films, with a slightly more grounded tone, and possibly no musical numbers.
It does, of course, feature a variety of talking animals, in what is a massive CGI-fest.
The animals do look good, however, if not somewhat disconcerting (Disney’s live-action animals were the same).
The film stars newcomer Rohan Chand as Mowgli, along with a voice cast of Hollywood heavyweights that include Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Freida Pinto, Matthew Rhys and Naomi Harris.
Serkis stars as the lovable bear Baloo alongside his directing duties.
Check out the film on Netflix and select theatres from 7 December 2018.
