Kin is an upcoming action crime-thriller with a sci-fi twist that features a family relationship as its underlying theme, starring Jack Reynor alongside an all-star cast.
A recently released ex-con (Reynor) and his half-brother Eli (Myles Truitt) are forced to go on the run after Eli finds a devastating futuristic weapon.
The brothers will rekindle their relationship on the road as they’re chased by crims, law enforcement and otherworldly soldiers.
The film’s trailer really pushes the family theme, with the constant threat of capture and harm drawing the brothers closer together.
Alongside that is plenty of sci-fi action, so this film appears to have it all.
While the action looks entertaining, it’s the dramatic elements that separate Kin from most other similar sci-fi films.
If the filmmakers can forge an emotional connection between the audience and the characters, then they could be in with a hit.
The film comes from the producers of the hit TV series Stranger Things and the award-winning sci-fi film Arrival (2016).
It’s directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker, who make their feature film writing and directing debut here, after having directed a few short films prior.
Joining Reynor and Truitt is an all-star cast that includes Carrie Coon, Dennis Quaid, James Franco and Zoë Kravitz.
Kin is due to hit Australian cinemas on 30 August 2018.
