‘Under the Volcano’ Sees Legendary Artists Record in Legendary Studio

under the volcano trailer

Under the Volcano features interviews with some of the world’s top music artists about their experience recording at the legendary AIR Studios Montserrat.

Artists like The Police, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, and Paul McCartney have spent time at AIR Studios Montserrat; the state-of-the-art recording studio tucked away on a Caribbean island paradise.

The studio was created by Beatles’ producer Sir George Martin in 1979 as a place for artists to go and escape the complexities of fame and fortune and record music in isolation.

The studio was a blessing for some and a curse for others, seeing tensions rise amongst band members, causing break-ups such as with The Police, while reinvigorating the careers of others, like Paul McCartney after the death of John Lennon.

Furthermore, island beauty turned to island hell at one point after a volcano erupted, covering the island in ash.

The history of the AIR Studios Montserrat is rich, and Australian director Gracie Otto tells its story with archival footage and interviews with some of the top recording artists whose careers were shaped there.

Under the Volcano is a documentary music film lovers’ dream, especially for those who grew up during that period.

However, it has broader appeal, considering that the music that came out of the studio is truly iconic and transcends age groups.

Under the Volcano is due to release digitally on 1 September 2021.
