The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s 2015 hit film, Sicario 2: Soldado, focuses on terrorist smuggling across the US-Mexican border.
Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro return in their roles as Matt Graver and Alejandro respectively, as they’re tasked with eradicating the smuggling of terrorists across the US-Mexican border.
The awesome first trailer sets what appears to be a super-gritty and violent tone, much like the first film.
We also get the basic plot outline for the film, and it’s one that will surely not disappoint crime-thriller movie fans.
Sicario 2: Soldado is directed by Italian director Stefano Solima, whose background mostly comes from TV work, but does have two Italian feature films to his credit; ACAB – All Cops Are Bastards (2012) and Suburra (2015).
Sadly Denis Villeneuve is not involved with this film in any capacity, however the first film’s writer, Taylor Sheridan is back writing this one.
Sheridan is a rising star in the industry, having now written both Sicario films, along with the outstanding crime-dramas Hell or High Water (2016) and the recent Wind River (2017, which he also directed).
While it’s only a short résumé, Sheridan’s potential is promising, so we can only hope he continues the trend on this film.
Soldado hits cinemas on 29 June 2018 in the US.
