Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway lead an all-star cast in the upcoming psychological thriller film Serenity.
Serenity follows a fishing boat captain (McConaughey) who is approached by his ex-wife (Hathaway) with a request to take her abusive new husband (Jason Clarke) on a fishing trip and murder him.
The captain’s past comes back to haunt him after he’s thrust into a world where not everything is what it seems.
Serenity is a small film with an enormous cast – enormous, that is, in terms of star power.
Alongside Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway is Diane Lane, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong.
It would seem a cast of that calibre would only be drawn to a film like this if there was something special in it.
Judging by the new trailer, it certainly does feel that way.
Keeping ambiguous in its finer plot points, the Serenity trailer paints a picture of possible psychological warfare between its principal characters, which always makes for exciting and tense viewing.
The film is directed by English director Steven Knight, whose past credits include the Jason Statham-starring Redemption (2013), and the awesome Tom Hardy-starring thriller, Locke (2013).
The framework in terms of cast and crew all appear to be there in this new psychological thriller, so fingers crossed Knight can deliver the goods.
Serenity is out on 25 January 2019, check out the trailer below.
