The upcoming crime-drama American Animals features an impressive young cast that includes Evan Peters and Barry Keoghan, and is based on the true story of a daring art heist.
The film follows two childhood friends Spencer and Warren (Keoghan and Peters respectively), who along with two other fellow students attempt the brazen robbery of a highly valuable and rare book from their school’s library.
The film’s trailer introduces us to its two lead actors and gives us a brief glimpse at their motivations, which appear to be not much more than a plot to break away from their mundane lives.
American Animals looks like it will be an intriguing, stylistic independent crime-drama, showcasing the talents of its two rising stars.
Evan Peters will be recognised from blockbuster films such as X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), where he played the fan favourite character Quicksilver, and TV fans will recognise him from the hit series American Horror Story.
Barry Keoghan broke out in 2017 with excellent performances in two outstanding films; The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dunkirk.
It’ll be interesting to see how these two up-and-comers will play off each other in this film, but so far it looks so good based on the first trailer.
The film is directed by Bart Layton, known for his 2012 crime documentary The Imposter, which is must-see viewing.
American Animals hits cinemas on 1 June 2018 in the US.
