Not to be confused with the Australian film of the same name, The Tracker is the latest in a long line of direct-to-video films Dolph Lundgren has been churning out for the past couple of decades.
Debuting in the James Bond flick A View to a Kill (1985) before striking gold as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV (1985), Lundgren’s career has been a mixed bag.
Currently in the midst of a career resurgence thanks to his roles in Creed II (2018) and Aquaman (2018), Lundgren finds himself in familiar territory with this action revenge-thriller.
That’s not a slight on the Swedish born action star, more a nod of approval for being able to sustain a successful career starring in less-than-great films.
In The Tracker, Lundgren plays Aiden Hakansson, a grief-stricken widow whose family was kidnapped and murdered during a botched ransom exchange.
Fifteen years later, Hakansson is tipped off about who may have killed his family and returns to the scene of the crime in a small Italian village to hunt down those responsible.
There’s nothing remarkable about this low budget trailer, but considering director Giorgio Serafini’s B-grade action pedigree (2011’s Johnny’s Gone and Game of Death) and Lundgren’s bland yet somehow engaging screen persona, The Tracker could be a decent beer and pizza movie watch.
The Tracker is set for release on Blu-Ray, DVD and digital from September 2019.
