‘The Suicide Squad’ Trailer – Is the Film Too Offbeat for its Own Good?

The Suicide Squad trailer has dropped and with it an all-new quirky sense of humour that director James Gunn is known for, but does it work?

The first Suicide Squad (2016) film suffered from a weak script, poor dialogue, style over substance, and failed to deliver anything we hadn’t already seen before.

James Gunn recently took over duties to relaunch the DC franchise, which revolves around a group of rag-tag super-powered criminals used as expendable government agents to fight crime.

Warner Brothers and Gunn have gone down the R-rated path on The Suicide Squad, and we can see glimmers of what will be included with the film’s new adult-rating; lots of blood and dick jokes.

The blood and violence are great, but the dick joke didn’t work and it concerns to think that the film will feature low-brow humour throughout its entirety.

There’s nothing wrong with that type of humour, and it has its place in specific kinds of films, but it just didn’t feel right and here, feeling like lazy writing.

Despite this, the film looks like it’ll be a lot of fun, and we’ve already heard that a lot of the cast members won’t make it through to the end of the film.

The Suicide Squad is due to release in cinemas on 5 August 2021.

It features a massive cast that includes Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi to name a few.
