Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson return in the sequel film The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which features many bodyguarding hijinks like the first film.
Reynold plays star bodyguard Michael Bryce, who decides to take a long hiatus from bodyguarding after meeting his match in the hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson).
While on vacation, Bryce is pulled back into his dangerous profession by Kincaid’s wife, Sonia (Salma Hayek), and the pair, alongside Darius, join forces to take on a new foe.
Naturally, there is a lot of action, violence, and laughs along the way.
The 2017 film that started this franchise, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, wasn’t well-received critically but did make a whopping $150 million profit, thus validating the need for a sequel.
Australian director Patrick Hughes returns alongside the principal cast to direct, and it seems to follow the same humorous, action-filled style of the first film.
Quirky, violent, buddy action movies like these never really do well with the critics but always make for entertaining viewing, and we can see from the film’s trailer that The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard will be just that.
Antonio Banderas, Tom Hopper, Richard E. Grant, Morgan Freeman, and Frank Grillo round out the cast.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is due for release on 16 June 2021.
