Terminator 6 Title Revealed – Time to Dust Off the Leather Jacket and Rock Out to G’n’R

James Cameron has published the working title to Terminator 6, the highly anticipated next instalment in the popular franchise.

The new film will jump the queue and effectively swipe the forgettable sequels Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines (2003) and Terminator Genisys (2015) from existence in order to be a belated follow-up to Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991).

Die-hard fans have long thought Terminator 2 to have featured the perfect ending, effectively making the need for sequels unnecessary but with Cameron back at the helm (as executive producer) there is excitement in the air.

Coupled with the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton will reprise their iconic roles, people are downright losing their shit.

Deadpool (2016) director Tim Miller joins actors Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna and Mackenzie Davis to join the fight in a dystopian future.

Speaking to Yahoo, Cameron revealed that the production team has taken the long-running theme of ‘darkness’ to a very literal place when it comes to their working title.

Despite tending to be “optimistic about people and our capacity to solve problems”, the Oscar-winning director announced:

“We’re calling it, Terminator: Dark Fate. That’s our working title right now.”

Being merely a working title, it could ultimately change before the film’s release.

Not much is known in terms of plot but we do know the new movie takes place in Mexico City and centres on Reyes’ character Dani Ramos as she finds herself being hunted by Luna’s Terminator.

Publicity still from ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’

Davis plays a character named Grace, described as a soldier-assassin who may herself be a cyborg sent from the future.

It’s not clear how Linda Hamilton’s character fits into the story at this point but Cameron has indicated her character deals with the issue of “what time and dealing with these tragic futures has done to her”, and that her “passing the baton to the new characters that come in” will be a big part of what will be a very “female-centric” movie.

Cameron’s use of the word “futures” says a whole lot.

Could Sarah Connor, in her crusade to save the world from a bleak fate have inadvertently made room for an even worse one?

Interestingly, John Connor is not present.

At one time the saviour of the world, it seems the fight to save the world this time may not include him.

One could argue that the Terminator franchise is in fact about Sarah and how it’s up to her to guide the world to a better place.

Regardless, it’s certainly ominous enough to get fans intrigued and speculating.
