The James Wan-produced supernatural horror film The Curse of the Weeping Woman gets its first teaser trailer!
Linda Cardellini plays a social worker who along with her young children, gets drawn into a terrifying supernatural realm, haunted by the evil La Llorona spirit.
The first teaser doesn’t reveal much in the way of the plot, but rather simply introduces the Llorona character as well as the film’s principal human cast, and highlights a couple of creepy segments from the film.
The film appears to follow the same type of horror tone as Wan’s previously produced work, as seen in films like The Conjuring series.
Fans of those films, along with the likes of this year’s The Nun (2018) and Insidious: The Last Key (2018) will feel right at home here.
Likewise, horror fans that cringe at the thought of watching any of the above mainstream horrors will also likely cringe at this first teaser.
The teaser focuses on setting up a jump-scare rather than building any real sense of dread.
This style isn’t ideal for horror purists, but for mainstream horror audiences, should do just fine.
The Curse of the Weeping Woman (or The Curse of La Llorona as it is alternatively known) is directed by Michael Chaves, who makes his directorial debut here.
He recently won Shriekfest’s Best Super Short Film in 2016 for The Maiden (see below).
The film stars Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, Patricia Velasquez and Marisol Ramirez.
It’s due to hit cinemas on 18 April 2019.
Check out the teaser below, along with the director’s award-winning short film.
