Everyone’s favourite underwater sponge creature, Spongebob, along with his friends set out on a new adventure in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
In Sponge on the Run, Spongebob (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke) set out on a journey to The Lost City of Atlantic City to find Spongebob’s missing pet snail, Gary.
There they’ll be tempted by the delights of the city and meet some zany characters.
Sponge on the Run is the first time Spongebob and the world that encompasses him and his friends will be animated completely with CGI, and it looks great.
Traditionally, the TV series that made the character popular and the subsequent films that followed have all been animated in 2D, so it’s a nice touch to see this universe in three-dimensions.
The teaser trailer promises lots of adventures and witty humour, as we’ve come to expect from this property.
Keanu Reeves, Awkwafina and Clancy Brown also feature in the film alongside the above-mentioned lead characters.
The film is directed by Tim Hill, whose past directing credits include the animated features Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007) and Hop (2011).
Spongebob Squarepants became an instant worldwide success and media franchise following its debut on Nickelodeon in 1999 and as of 2017 has grossed $13 billion in merchandising revenue for Nickelodeon.
It’s not surprising that the series has become so popular as it’s hilarious, with humour that appeals to both young and old.
Sponge on the Run hits cinemas on 9 July 2020, check out the new teaser trailer below!
