Based on the 2001 novel of the same name, Disney’s Artemis Fowl is a new young adult fantasy film from acclaimed director Kenneth Branagh.
Artemis Fowl II (Ferdia Shaw) and his bodyguard Domovoi Butler (Nonso Anozie) set out in search of the existence of fairies in hopes of robbing them, with the ultimate goal of rescuing Artemis’ missing criminal father.
The first teaser for Disney’s new franchise-in-the-making reveals a look at the film’s principal cast as well as glimpses of the world they’ve built for the film.
It’s heavy on the fantasy elements, featuring magical fairies and a futuristic underground city.
We don’t get much by way of the plot, rather the focus is on the film’s aesthetic here.
The film looks up to standard on that front and its directed by Kenneth Branagh, who has done some great work in the past, his most recent film being Murder on the Orient Express (2017).
The novel the film is based on has been described by its author, Eoin Colfer, as “Die Hard with fairies”.
The film stars newcomers Ferdia Shaw, Lara McDonnell and Tamara Smart.
Nonso Anozie, Hong Chau, Josh Gad, and Judi Dench co-star.
The film is due to hit cinemas on 28 November 2019 and should it be successful, will likely set up a new franchise for Disney.
