Taron Egerton is a shoe-in for the world-renowned iconic artist Sir Elton John in the upcoming biopic about the singer’s life, Rocketman.
Rocketman follows the life story of Reginald Dwight, the musically gifted talent from Middlesex, England, who would go on to strip his dorky name and identity and become Elton John – one of the most flamboyant, creative and best-selling solo artists in the world.
John has been around since the early ’60s, with his first album Empty Sky releasing in 1969, spawning a career that spanned 30 albums and 300+ million records along with numerous accolades, including a knighthood.
As far as musical talents go, Sir Elton John is one of the greats and his life story fitting of a biopic in 2019.
Taron Egerton is a dead ringer for the artist and does an excellent job performing John’s hits personally in the film.
Rocketman will likely follow the standard blueprint for music biopics, though there does appear to be some creative elements in the film as well, which should elevate it above the norm.
With last year’s Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) garnering plenty of attention and awards recognition, it’s likely that Rocketman is aiming to go down the same path.
It’s directed by Dexter Fletcher and co-stars Richard Madden, Jamie Bell and Bryce Dallas Howard.
See it in cinemas from 31 May 2019.
