‘Silence’ – First Trailer for Martin Scorsese’s New Period Drama

Master director Martin Scorsese directs Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson in this upcoming drama based in seventeenth century Japan.

The film follows the journey of Garfield’s and Driver’s characters; two Christian missionaries that set out to find their missing mentor (Neeson), lost in Japan, in a time where Christianity was outlawed in the land of the rising sun.

Give Scorsese any film script and he can turn it into gold, give him a script of this magnitude and watch the awards pile up.

This first trailer gives us a brief look at the film’s plot, and features some extraordinary visuals to the tune of some powerful music.

It appears the film will be epic, with the rumour being that it will run for at least three hours – though there’s no surprise there as Scorsese’s films all tend go in that direction.

Silence looks like it will feature themes of spirituality and self-discovery, and it definitely has a stranger-in-a-strange-land vibe to it.

It features two of the most in-demand actors of today in Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver, and co-stars Liam Neeson who is just about in everything these days.

Silence will be Scorsese’s follow-up to The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), a film that was nominated for 5 Oscars, and it looks as though his next film will likely be award-bound as well.

The film hits Australian cinemas on 16 February 2017, and as with any new Scorsese film that’s released – it’s a must-see.

The official synopsis for the film is as follows:

Martin Scorsese’s SILENCE tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) – at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden.
