Word out of Hollywood is that Black Panther co-writer and director Ryan Coogler has signed the dotted line and is officially involved in the film’s sequel.
Considering the enormous success and cultural importance of Black Panther (2018), it is interesting to note that Coogler took his time in making a deal before committing to this project.
It is reassuring to know he will be involved in the sequel, as he was a big part of why the first film worked so well.
Seeing the film is another story though, as no dates have been confirmed.
According to THR, writing may commence in early 2019, production beginning in early 2020, leading to a 2021 release.
With Coogler yet to begin writing the script, what may happen in the film is anyone’s guess.
Aside from Coogler and potentially co-writer Joe Robert Cole (if he returns a second time), not even Marvel know what direction this sequel may take or how much it may deal with the events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018).
In the meantime, Coogler has been keeping himself busy, producing Space Jam 2, executive producing Creed II (2018) and developing the drama film Wrong Answer.
