Tom Holland aims for a career-best performance in the upcoming Apple TV+ exclusive crime drama, Cherry, from the Russo brothers.
Holland plays Cherry, a young man who after returning from active service as an Army medic returns home with PTSD, becomes a drug addict, and resorts to robbing banks to pay off his debts.
Cherry comes to us from Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019) directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who recently also produced the hugely popular Netflix hit, Extraction (2020).
Their latest steers away from all-out action (though it’s not entirely removed) and chooses to focus on a more personal, character-driven story.
Cherry follows Tom Holland’s character on a journey from an innocent high-schooler to a struggling vet who’s turned to drugs and crime to cope with his problems.
It’s a drama film that puts focus on the effects that war can have on returning veterans and the difficulties they face dealing with stepping back into society.
Cherry also allows Tom Holland to showcase his range as an actor, after having mostly only starred in superhero films like Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and the previously mentioned Avengers films.
The film releases in theaters on 26 February 2021 and shortly thereafter on 12 March on Apple TV+.
