Iconic 90’s cartoon The Ren & Stimpy Show is the subject of the new documentary film Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story.
The Ren & Stimpy Show was a huge success for Nickelodeon when it arrived to corrupt children’s minds in 1991.
The animated TV series was unlike anything people had seen before, with its revolting lead characters, Ren & Stimpy, getting up to all sorts of grotesque misadventures over 52 episodes.
How this show was allowed to be marketed to kids is anyone’s guess, and the new documentary aims to shed light on the show’s creation with inreviews from all the key players, including its controversial creator, John Kricfalusi.
The show’s popularity saw Kricfalusi likened to Walt Disney (per the trailer below), however, as the documentary aims to highlight, the visionary creator was anything but wholesome.
The Ren & Stimpy Show was ahead of its time and pushed the boundaries with each episode.
Fans of the series will be delighted to see the story behind the show explored in the upcoming documentary.
It arrives on 14 August 2020.
