A new red band trailer has been released for Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film The Shape of Water, setting the tone of what we can expect from the movie.
Why this one was classed as a red band trailer by the classification board is beyond me, with the only obvious answer being that it’s political correctness at its finest (there’s one swear word and a bit of blood).
Anyway, the trailer reveals a little bit more about the story compared to the first trailer, and we can see that the characters Elisa (Sally Hawkins) and Zelda (Octavia Spencer) appear to be behind a plot to release into the world, the fish-like humanoid creature they’re hiding as part of a secret government project.
Elisa is a mute that feels compassionate towards the creature, thus her inclination to want to set it free (from what I gather), however the suit in charge, Strickland (Michael Shannon), will stop at nothing to get it back.
Guillermo del Toro’s signature blend of noir-ish, fairy-tale-like, fantasy storytelling is on full display here and it suits this movie perfectly.
The Shape of Water recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it was met with an extremely positive reception, with early Oscar talk behind it already.
We’ll have to wait til 25 January 2018 to see it here in Australia, approximately 7-8 weeks after it’s released on 8 December in the USA.
In the meantime, check out the red band trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
