Reality is a Simulation in New Amazon Original Sci-Fi Drama ‘Bliss’

movies set in a simulation

Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek are living in a simulation in the new sci-fi drama film Bliss from director Mike Cahill, who’s known for his high-concept work.

Wilson plays Greg, an unfulfilled father down on his luck, whose world is turned upside down after he meets the mysterious Isabel (Hayek), who shows Greg that the world they’re living in is nothing but a simulation that can be manipulated at will.

The real world, as it is soon revealed, is more like a beautiful paradise, with the simulation existing for the purpose of appreciating the real, ‘bliss’ world.

Things become confusing when the ‘bliss’ world begins to merge with the simulated world, forcing Greg and Isabel to wonder what’s real and what isn’t.

Bliss features the type of mind-bending and thought-provoking premise that only a director like Mike Cahill can execute successfully, with past films including Another Earth (2011) and I, Origins (2014), both of which have high-concept themes.

Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek appear to be in great form in this one, and it’s a sci-fi film that fans looking for something outside of the mainstream should be getting excited for.

Bliss arrives exclusively to Amazon Prime Video on 5 February 2021!
